In 1969, the City of Cerritos purchased 83 acres of land on 195th Street and Bloomfield Avenue with $1.3 million from a Federal Grant and $1.3 million in matching city funds. The city entered into an agreement with the County of Los Angeles forming the Cerritos Regional County Park Authority. The Authority served as a legal committee whereby the land was given to the Department of Parks and Recreation for the development and operation of a regional park that would serve all of Southeast Los Angeles County.
