On a motion by Supervisor Antonovich in 2003, the Board of Supervisors renamed Lake Los Angeles Park to Stephen Sorensen Park in memory of Deputy Sorensen who was shot and killed in the line of duty. This unique park was truly an example of “by and of the people.” The Lake Los Angeles Park Association was formed by the homeowners in 1987. In order to fulfill their desire for a community park in this very rural area, homeowners voluntarily assessed themselves to accumulate funds to build a park. In 1990, they also formed the Lake Los Angeles Landscape and Lighting Act, District No. 2, Zone No. 45, for the purpose of providing funds for improvement to, and maintenance of, landscaped recreational open space located in an unincorporated area of Lake Los Angeles.
