Named for baseball great Jackie Robinson, the park was dedicated on June 16, 1965.
One of the driving forces behind Jackie Robinson Park was and is today the Women’s Club of Sun Village. Their primary purpose is to promote education, literacy and philanthropic activity among its members and to develop an interest in civic, and social and economic conditions in the community.
The Women’s club started by buying 3 acres of land, and Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Carroll donated 1 acre. In 1958, because four acres were not enough for a park of acceptable size, the County purchased an additional 5+ acres, as well as the four acres from the Women’s Club.
