Los Angeles County began construction of Apollo Park in 1969, and it was dedicated in 1972. Named in honor of the Apollo 11 astronauts who first journeyed to the moon, this 56-acre aquatic recreation area is part of the Antelope Valley Wastewater Reclamation Project. The park comprises 26 acres of three recreational lakes (Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins) and 30 landscaped acres of park land. The lakes are stocked with trout from November through April and with catfish in the warm months. A fishing license is required for persons 16 years and older. Apollo Park has no structured program activities, but does host very popular annual fishing derbies for adults and youth. For information, please contact Jeff Dorst at (661) 775-8865.
