The park was spearheaded in 1949 by residents from 200 homes who wanted a civic center and recreation area. These residents were willing to spend their own time and money for the projects. When the property cost proved too high, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors agreed to purchase the land. Ten years later in 1959, Valleydale County Park was dedicated for the community. Valleydale County Park was rededicated in July 2003 with the addition of a new social hall, computer lab, and Tiny Tot classroom.
